"There are many types of battle in Afghanistan. Imagine living in a country where women and girls are not allowed to leave the house without a man. Imagine having to wear clothes that cover every part of your body, including your face, wherever you go out. This is the life of Parvana, a young girl growing up in Afghanistan under control of an extreme religious military group." Wars in AfghanistanThe Taliban first appeared and claimed power in the 1990s, in Pakistan. They established laws that all women must be covered head to toe in Burkas and restricted all girls from going to school. They insured all men must grow beards. They refused all simple pleasures such as movies, books and music. Within these laws they approved of public executions of criminals, for crimes that are classed as small today, such as theft. In later years the Taliban slowly claimed power over other countries in the Middle East, including Afghanistan.
